My girlfriend was a classics major and enjoyed studying ancient greek. I'm hoping to propose to her in ancient Greek. Can anyone provide a translation (and literal explanation in case she asks me word for word)?

Thanks much,
S.

                            Ἆρα θέλεις ἐμοὶ γαμεῖσθαι;

ἆρα = particle introducing emotionally-loaded question
θέλεις = "do you wish"
ἐμοὶ = "to me"
γαμεῖσθαι = "to be getting married"
; = Greek question mark

Thank you very much!  Just one more question - is the translation Koine or Attic or pretty similar between the two?

Thanks again,
Scott

You'd make yourself pretty well understood anywhere from Homer's time to Constantine's.  Good luck, Champ!
