I know it's a bit unoriginal using greek for a tattoo, but it goes along with my name (Athena) and i've been obsessed with Greek culture/mythology/and the language since I was really little so it only seems fitting.

I need "She flies on her own wings" translated into ancient greek (preferably) but if that's not easily done, then "regular" greek is just as good.

Thanks!

Athena

Ancient Greek:  πέτεται πτέρυξιν ἑαυτῆς.
Τί δέ τις; Τί δ' οὔ τις; Σκιᾶς ὄναρ ἄνθρωπος. — Πίνδαρος

Sorry - one quick question though. Does it translate exactly into "she flies on her own wings?" or something similar, just so i actually know what i'm talking about when i explain it to people..haha.

Thanks again

Literally:  "She flies by means of wings of herself."  In other words, yes.  ((-:

My earlier (2009) translation was worded to be gender-specific.  However, πέτεται πτέρυξιν ἑαυτῆς is more awkward Greek and less idiomatic than ἰδίαις πέτεται πτέρυξιν, which doesn't specify gender.  The Oregon state motto alis volat propriis  is also not gender-specific, but everyone translates it "She flies with her own wings" because states are just naturally feminine.  By the same token, I figured that, since it's a tattoo on your body, everyone will assume the subject of πέτεται is a "she!"  (-;
