Μπορεί να ακουστεί χαζή η ερώτησή μου και πολύ πιθανό να ξέρω ήδη την απάντηση και να μη μου έρχεται, αλλά πώς θα πούμε "Πάτα φρένο!" ή απλά "Φρένο!", μιλώντας για κάποιον που οδηγάει αυτοκίνητο; Το έψαξα αλλά βρήκα μόνο το "apply the brakes", καθόλου ικανοποιητικό! SOS!

Δεν είναι κάτι σε Slow down; Ή ίσως σκέτο brake;

Ούτε εγώ το είχα σκεφτεί ποτέ αυτό που λες.

Ακριβώς το ίδιο! Μπορεί να το έχω ακούσει στ' Αγγλικά (περισσότερο το slow down) αλλά δεν πάει στο μυαλό αν δεν το χρειάζεσαι. Και λέω: τόσο εύκολη φράση, να μην την ξέρω;

Pit, αν θυμάμαι καλά έχω ακούσει και τις φράσεις "slam on the brakes" και "put on the brakes".

Δυστυχώς πρέπει να ζητήσω συγγνώμη, επειδή στη βιασύνη μου να απαντήσω δεν έκανα επαλήθευση.

H φράση "slam on the brakes (http://www.google.gr/search?hl=el&lr=lang_en|lang_el&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:el:official&hs=iDH&q=%22slam+on+the+brakes&start=0&sa=N)" δίνει στο Google 88.600 ευρέσεις και φαίνεται πως είναι σωστή. Παρόλα αυτά, χρησιμοποιείται κυρίως για την περιγραφή του απότομου τρόπου φρεναρίσματος και όχι στην προστακτική.

Η φράση "put on the brakes (http://www.google.gr/search?hl=el&lr=lang_en|lang_el&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:el:official&hs=caw&q=%22put+on+the+brakes&start=10&sa=N)" με 396.000 αποτελέσματα, αν και όντως σημαίνει πατάω φρένο, χρησιμοποιείται κυρίως με τη μεταφορική της σημασία για τις απεργιακές κινητοποιήσεις των οδηγών.

Η φράση "push the brake (http://www.google.gr/search?hl=el&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Ael%3Aofficial&q=%22push+the+brake&btnG=%CE%91%CE%BD%CE%B1%CE%B6%CE%AE%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%83%CE%B7&meta=lr%3Dlang_en|lang_el)" (στον ενικό) εμφανίζει 36.500 αποτελέσματα, και τέλος, υπάρχει και η φράση "hit the brakes (http://www.google.gr/search?hl=el&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Ael%3Aofficial&hs=wcw&q=%22hit+the+brakes&btnG=%CE%91%CE%BD%CE%B1%CE%B6%CE%AE%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%83%CE%B7&meta=lr%3Dlang_en|lang_el)" με 507.000 αποτελέσματα, και με εμφάνιση στο The Free Dictionary.

Μετά από όλα αυτά +1 στο brake!
