Oxford Latin Dictionary:
amygdalites ~ae, m.  A kind of euphorbia, broad-leaved spurge.
Pliny the Elder, 26, 8, 44, § 70: alii ἀμυγδαλίτην a similitudine...
, "Others call it amygdalites from its similarity [to the almond]."
(A spurge is a weed of the genus Euphorbia, having a milky juice and flowers with no petals.)

Thanks for the ref. to the Diccionario Griego-Español (http://dge.cchs.csic.es/xdge/%E1%BC%80%CE%BC%CF%85%CE%B3%CE%B4%CE%B1%CE%BB%E1%BD%B7%CF%84%CE%B7%CF%82)!  DGE seems to think Pliny refers only to the platyphyllos: (ἀμυγδαλίτης, -ου, ὁ, bot. trovisco macho, Euphorbia charadas L., Dsc.4.164 •E. platyphyllos L., Plin.HN 26.70).  I wonder if either of those resemble an almond, or an almond tree.
