The Fields tab (Setup dialog box)
Use the Fields tab to define attribute and text fields to further describe the translation units that are stored in your translation memory. For more detailed information and an example of how text and attribute fields can be used, refer to the Translator’s Workbench User Guide.
Defining Text Fields, Attribute Fields and Attribute Values
To define text fields, attribute fields or attribute values:
1 From the File menu, select Setup. The Setup dialog box is displayed.
2. Select the Fields tab and click inside the list to which you want to add the new field or value.
3. Click Add. The cursor moves to the Field box.
4. Type a name for the new field or value. The name is added to the relevant list of fields or values.
5. Repeat this procedure for each field or value that you want to add.
Changing Fields and Values
After working with a translation memory for a while, you may wish to add new fields and values or change the existing ones.
You can add new items to the field or value lists at any time. However, if you want to change fields or values, there are a few things to keep in mind:
List items are stored in the translation memory in compressed form rather than as complete text strings. This means that once you change an attribute field name in the Fields tab of the Setup dialog box, the change affects every instance of the field name in the memory.
Do not change the order in which items are listed, as this changes basic data in the translation memory. If it is absolutely necessary to change the order of items in the Text fields, Attribute fields or Attribute values lists, use the following procedure:
1. Export the entire contents of the translation memory
2. Create a new translation memory and define the new order of setup items
3 Re-import the contents of the original translation memory into the new translation memory
Do not delete items once you have defined them, as this also changes basic data in the translation memory. If deletion is absolutely necessary, use the procedure outlined above to transfer the contents of the original memory into a new translation memory.
