Title: rennet -> πυτία, πυτιά
Post by: Lorna on 08 Mar, 2006, 14:09:26
Hello,

I am new to this, so please excuse mistakes! I often have to do translations of food ingredients as part of my job. Occasionally I come across a word I can't find anywhere, or there are several options and I am not sure which is correct. Has anyone ever seen a special English/Greek dictionary of food terms?

Anyway, for now, does anyone know the correct word for Rennet?

Lorna

Πυτία or πυτιά (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-52,GGLG:en&q=%CF%80%CF%85%CF%84%CE%AF%CE%B1).

Thanks for your help. I found πυτιά and ρενέτα. Is πυτιά in common use?

Ρενέτα is not valid, as far as I know. Πυτιά or the more formal πυτία is quite common.

There's also ρεννίνη or ρενίνη for 'rennin' and χυμοσίνη for chymosin.
