New features in SDL Trados since Trados 6.5

SDL Trados 2006
March 2006 will see the release of SDL Trados 2006, available in both Freelance and Professional editions.

This release signifies the first step towards bringing both products closer together and prepares the foundation for the new SDL Trados next generation software platform.

SDL Trados 2006 is a combination of three key components: TRADOS 7.5, SDLX 2006 and MultiTerm 7.1. This new suite of products includes a harmonization of best-of-breed features of both TRADOS 7.5 and SDLX 2006, specifically in the following areas:

SDL Trados Translator’s Workbench 7.5 Part of SDL Trados 2006
    — QA checking is now available in SDL Trados TagEditor, offering similar features as SDLX 2006, including the ability to jump to the segment from the QA report.

    — SDL Trados TagEditor users now have the ability to work with comments both at segment and at document level. This enables users to add, edit, delete and forward comments along the supply chain, helping to keep track of a document's progress.

This means for example that reviewers can now put feedback into translated documents and send them back to translators for fine-tuning translations.

Similarly translators can use this feature to ask authors about specific terminology. The possibilities are endless and will help to further streamline and facilitate the collaboration between all participants in a translation project.

    — SDL Trados TagEditor can now open SDL's ITD translation documents, allowing users to choose TagEditor as editing environment for ITD files as required.

    — Support for even more file types. TRADOS 7.5 features a new filter for InDesign CS2, based on InDesign’s INX exchange format and a filter for Open Office that handles all variants of the Open Office format, including Star Office, directly. It also includes a new filter for Java properties as well as one of SDL’s filters for processing generic text delimited files.

    — The new language support first introduced with TRADOS 7 for emerging languages such as Hindi is now also available when using these languages as source languages.

    — TRADOS 7.5 supports the upcoming next version of SDL's Enterprise level collaboration solution, SDL TeamWorks 2006

    — TRADOS translation memories can be exchanged more easily with SDLX 2006 and vice versa, using enhanced TMX capabilities.

    — Support for SQL Server 2005.

    — Besides these enhancements, SDL Trados 2006 has considerable enhancements in SDL Trados TM Server, especially when it comes to the performance in systems with hundreds or even thousands of server-based translation memories.

SDLX 2006, Part of SDL Trados 2006
    — SDLX 2006 offers more seamless support for TRADOStag (TTX), allowing users to choose SDLX 2005 as editing environment when working on TRADOStag documents.

    — Support for even more file types. SDLX now includes TRADOS’ new filter for processing Word documents, largely facilitating working on Word documents in SDLX. Like TRADOS 7.5, SDLX now also includes support for InDesign CS2. In addition, .NET file types such as RESX, binary etc. are now supported.

    — SDLX offers enhanced reviewing capabilities by allowing users to export ITD files to an HTML-based format that also includes such elements as comments for viewing and printing in Internet Explorer.

    — SDLX fully supports SDL's new collaboration and project management solution SDL Synergy 2006. For more information, refer to the SDL product literature.

    — SDLX users can now optionally use MultiTerm as a terminology system within SDLX 2005. This means that terms can be stored in MultiTerm termbase and be fully leveraged during translation work in SDLX. SDL TermBase continues to be supported so that users can smoothly migrate their terminology data from TermBase into SDL MultiTerm.

    — TRADOS translation memories can be exchanged more easily with SDLX 2006 and vice versa, using enhanced TMX capabilities.

    — HTTPS/SSL support for SDL Synergy TMs in the SDLX Client.

    — MS Windows XP-style look and feel in all SDLX components - modernising the user interface

    — Support for SQL Server 2005.

    — SDL Trados 7 Licensing consolidation: SDLX will check for the "twb" feature in FLEXlm license files, i.e. use the same license as Translator's Workbench. If not found, it will fall back on Softlock. If Softlock is not found, it will fall back onto evaluation/demo mode.

This means users can work with SDLX using the standard Trados FLEXlm mechanisms and we will not have two different license fulfilments for new license shipments while still maintaining backward compatibility with Softlock and dongle where required.

    — Enhanced Spell Checking functionality.

SDL International is the leader in the emerging market for global information management (GIM) solutions that empower organizations to improve the quality and accelerate the delivery of high quality multilingual content to global markets.

Αυτά, πάντως, υπάρχουν από το SDL Trados 7.1. To δε QA είναι πάρα πολύ χρήσιμο, όταν κανείς δουλεύει μεγάλα αρχεία.
