Τριγυρνώντας στη Ρώμη με την κορούλα μου (τότε κορούλα, τώρα κορίτσαρος), είχαμε παρατηρήσει γραμμένα εδώ κι εκεί, αλλά κυρίως πάνω στα καλύμματα των υπονόμων, τα αρχικά SPQR. Γυρίσαμε στην Αθήνα με την απορία και τη λύσαμε ιντερνετικά:

Σήμερα έμαθα και την αναπόφευκτη κωμική εκδοχή για τα αρχικά (credit τω όντι):

Κι εγώ που θα έπαιρνα όρκο ότι σημαίνει κάτι σε "Εταιρεία Αποχετεύσεως Ρώμης και Περιχώρων" (αν είχα πάει στη Ρώμη that is)...
Σοβαρά όμως (...), αυτά τα αρχικά παίζουν και στον Αστερίξ ή είναι άλλα;

However, in many other respects the series reflects life in 1st century BC fairly accurately for the medium. For example, the multi-storied apartments in Rome - the insulae - which have Obelix remarking that one man's roof is another man's floor, and consequently, "These Romans are crazy": his favourite line. This line itself is also an intrinsic joke on Rome and the Romans, as its Italian equivalent is "Sono pazzi questi romani", which, like the banner of the Roman Empire ("Senatus Populusque Romanus"), abbreviates as "SPQR".
