Θνησιμότητα Mortality
Θνητότητα Fatality
Mortality
represents the number of deaths per unit of population (100,000 now generally used and indicated) which population consists of the sick and the well, thus:
mortality
= deaths (for a given illness)/unit of population (100,000 sick and well)
Fatality
is based on the number of deaths per 100 cases of a given disease

η [θnitótita] O28 : 1. 2.
ΛΚΝ
Mortality rate
is a measure of the
number of deaths
(in general, or due to a specific cause)
in some population
, scaled to the size of that population, per unit time. Mortality rate is typically expressed in units of deaths per 1000 individuals per year; thus, a mortility rate of 9.5 in a population of 100,000 would mean 950 deaths per year in that entire population, or 0.95% out of the total. It is distinct from morbidity rate, which refers to the number of individuals in poor health during a given time period (the prevalence rate) or the number who currently have that disease (the incidence rate), scaled to the size of the population.

In epidemiology,
case fatality
(CF) or
fatality rate
, is the ratio of deaths within a
designated population of people with a particular condition
, over a certain period of time. An example of a fatality rate would be 9 deaths per 10,000 people at risk per year. This means that within a given year, out of 10,000 people formally diagnosed with a disease, 9 died.
The rate for the Spanish flu was >2.5%, about 0.1% for the Asian and Hong Kong flus, and <0.1% for other influenza pandemics.
Zaïre Ebola Virus is among the deadliest viruses with a case fatality rate of roughly 90%.
