Title: Search engines allowing search with wildcards?
Post by: spiros on 02 Jan, 2005, 03:55:17
For exaple *bert" would yields both "dilbert" and "albert" or manag* would yield "manager", "managing", "management"...

Altavista used to allow this and it was an extremely useful feature for translators making intelligent guesses on terminology. Google allows wildcards but only as substitures for a whole word in phrase searches, i.e. the search "my * car" would yield  "my small car", "my fast car", etc.

Does anybody know of a search engine, or even a Google API (this would be ideal) that offers this kind of functionality?
