Deeply I go down into myself
From: Letters to a young poet, translated by Stephen Mitchell:
—And in the man too there is motherhood, it seems to me, physical and mental; his engendering is also a kind of birthing, and it is birthing when he creates out of his innermost fullness. And perhaps the sexes are more akin than people think, and the great renewal of the world will perhaps consist in one phenomenon: that man and woman, freed from all mistaken feelings and aversions, will seek each other not as opposites but as brother and sister, as neighbors, and will unite as human beings, in order to bear in common, simply, earnestly, and patiently, the heavy sex that has been laid upon them...
Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves
Words of love:
— Love is at first not anything that means merging, giving over, and uniting with another ... it is a high inducement to the individual to ripen, to become something in himself for another's sake, it is a great exacting claim upon him, something that chooses him out and calls him to vast things.

  • Ruskin, John
A good book is written not only to multiply and transmit speech, but to perpetuate it.

  • Russell, Bertrand (Bertrand Arthur William Russell, 3rd Earl Russell)
Many people when they fall in love look for a little haven of refuge from the world, where they can be sure of being admired when they are not admirable, and praised when they are not praiseworthy.

That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest.
The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that I am happy in loving him, he will want no other reward. Is not friendship divine in this?
There is no remedy for love but to love more → Il n'y a qu'un remède à l'amour : aimer davantage

  • Tolle, Eckhart
What is conventionally called “love” is an ego strategy to avoid surrender

Power of now
A beggar had been sitting by the side of a road for over thirty years
When your life situation is all you know about yourself, then you miss life...
To the ego, the present moment hardly exists. Only past and future are considered important
Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within
The pain that you create now is always some form of non acceptance, some form of unconscious resistance to what is

A New Earth: Create a Better Life
Pay attention to the gap — the gap between two thoughts
The absurd over-valuation of fame is just one of the many manifestations of egoic madness in our world
Whatever behavior the ego manifests, the hidden motivating force is always the same: the need to stand out, be special, be in control
All you need to know and observe in yourself is this: whenever you feel superior or inferior to anyone, that’s the ego in you
The stronger the ego in you, the more likely it is that in your perception other people are the main source of problems in your life
The extent of the ego’s inability to recognize itself and see what it is doing is staggering and unbelievable
There is nothing that strengthens the ego more than being right
Every ego is a master of selective perception and distorted interpretation
Fighting unconsciousness will draw you into unconsciousness yourself
Compassion arises when you recognize that all are suffering from the same sickness of the mind, some more acutely than others
Some egos, if they cannot get praise or admiration, will settle for other forms of attention and play roles to elicit them
What is commonly called “falling in love” is in most cases and intensification of egoic wanting and needing
Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you are withholding from the world.
Very unconscious people experience their own ego through its reflection in others
Stupidity is relatively harmless, but intelligent stupidity is highly dangerous
If you think you are so enlightened, go and spend a week with your parents.
The joy of Being, which is the only true happiness, can not come to you through any form, possession, achievement, person, or event
Nonresistance is the key to the greatest power in the universe
You cannot make the egoless state into a future goal and then work toward it
So instead of adding time to yourself, remove time. The elimination of time from your consciousness is the elimination of ego.
Nothing is going to make us free because only the present moment can make us free
It isn’t the action you perform that you really enjoy, but the deep sense of aliveness that flows into it
When you make the present moment, instead of past and future, the focal point of your life, your ability to enjoy what you do
If you are not taking responsibility for your state of consciousness, you are not taking responsibility for life
What the future holds for you depends on your state of consciousness now

  • Tomlinson, Cybele
Yoga is about clearing away whatever is in us that prevents our living in the most full and whole way

People mistake their limitations for high standards

How do we know when a translation is good?
Translation criticism is an essential link between translation theory and its practice
The original is unfaithful to the translation.
Translation is like a woman, if she is beautiful, she is not faithful; if she is faithful, she is not beautiful.
What makes literature interesting is that it does not survive its translation.
Power is the capacity to translate intention into reality and sustain it.
It is as impossible to translate poetry as it is to translate music
Poetry is what is lost in translation

  • Translator
The translator is clearly the only true reader of a text, certainly more than any critic, perhaps even more than its author. The critic of a text engages in nothing more than an ephemeral courtship with it, its author is its father or husband, but the translator is its lover.

  • Twain, Mark (Samuel Langhorne Clemens)
In the first place God made idiots. This was for practice. Then he made proof-readers
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything
Whenever I feel the need to exercise, I lie down until it goes away

  • von Hochheim, Eckhart (commonly known as Meister Eckhart)
Meister Eckhart on humility:
If God is to be a giver, he must first find a taker, but no one may be a taker of God's gifts except by his humility. Therefore, if God is to exercise his divine property by his gifts, he well may need my humility; for apart from humility he can give me nothing - without it I am not prepared to receive his gift. That is why it is true that by humility I give divinity to God.
Time is what keeps the light from reaching us. There is no greater obstacle to God than time.

  • Vonnegut, Kurt
I think that the Earth's immune system is trying to get rid of us, as well it should.
Find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about.
It is this genuine caring, not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style.

Aγαπώ σημαίνει ζω.

I god.
Γιατί περισσεύει τόσος μήνας στο τέλος των χρημάτων;
Δευτέρα το καταλαβαίνω. Αλλά Σάββατο; Γίνεται να μην μ' αγαπάς Σάββατο;
