Το ΣΕΠΠΕ είναι ένας εξαιρετικά χρήσιμος δείκτης για τον καταναλωτή διότι, δείχνει υπό την μορφή ποσοστού επί τοις εκατό τη συνολική (περιλαμβάνει όλα τα στοιχεία κόστους της πίστωσης και είναι εξ ορισμού μεγαλύτερο από το απλό ετήσιο επιτόκιο), σε ετήσια βάση, επιβάρυνση που θα έχει από το συγκεκριμένο δάνειο.
