As I say, it's in no ancient corpus that I know of.  And it's not very good Greek, either.  Γάρ is used incorrectly, καταισχύνει is misspelled, etc.  Schoolboy stuff, maybe.  Where'd you get it?

Spiro, I see you've changed τὸ πέρδεσθαι in the title to περί τοῦ πέρδεσθαι, and I've emended my translation accordingly.  Do we now have the original words of the quotation?  Sorry, I can't find it in the refs. you provided.
