The Cure
Robert Graves
No lover ever found a cure for love
Except so cruel a thrust under the heart
(By her own hand delivered)
His wound was nine long years in healing
Purulent with dead hope,
And ached yet longer at the moon's changes...
More tolerable the infection than the cure.

Ρόμπερτ Γκρέιβς (απόδοση: Σπύρος Δόικας)
Κανένας εραστής, ποτέ, δεν βρήκε του έρωτα γιατρειά
Εκτός από ένα άκαρδο πλήγμα κάτω από την καρδιά
(Που από το δικό της χέρι να ’χει δοθεί).
Η πληγή του εννιά χρόνια κι ακόμη να επουλωθεί
Πυορροώντας ακατάσχετα νεκρή ελπίδα
Και με του φεγγαριού τα γυρίσματα να πονάει ακόμη πιο πολύ...
Από τη γιατρειά, η αρρώστια πιο υποφερτή.

Robert Graves biography, works and poetry index
Robert Ranke Graves
(24 July 1895 – 7 December 1985) was an English poet, translator and novelist. During his long life, he produced more than 140 works. He was the son of the Anglo-Irish writer Alfred Perceval Graves and Amalie von Ranke, a niece of historian Leopold von Ranke. He was the brother of the author Charles Patrick Graves and half-brother of Philip Graves.

πρόταση απόδοσης που μου βγήκε με μια πρώτη ανάγνωση του αγγλικού ποιήματος (και με όλη την απειρία που με διακρίνει)
"And ached yet longer at the moon's changes"
αντί για πονάει ίσως να ήθελα κάτι πιο δυνατό όπως σφαδάζει :)
