There's no "or" in the Greek. I like the literal translation: bane
and
salvation. So, apparently, do quite a few others, including your anonymous Latin translator at
Mulier familiae pestis est, mulier salus → Γυνὴ γὰρ οἴκῳ πῆμα καὶ σωτηρία [Menander Monostichoi 85]
. It matches the sentiment "can't live with her, or without her." Also reminds me of Homer Simpson's salute "to alcohol, the cause, and cure, of all our troubles." (-:
