φάρμακον κάλλιστον ἑᾶς ἀρετᾶς ... εὑρέσθαι:  Willett's translation ("the fairest way to win his own exploits") doesn't seem to have much to do with the Greek, or with Pindar.  The second translation, by Ms. Svarlien ("find the finest elixir of excellence"), seems much closer.  Both, however, ignore the possibility that φάρμακον should be taken in its literal sense — a "remedy" for the alternative situation set forth in the previous line, τὰν ἀκίνδυνον παρὰ ματρὶ μένειν αἰῶνα πέσσοντ᾽ ("to stay home by Mama, coddling a risk-free life").  The remedy for that, the answer to that situation, is the exercise, together with other παλικάρια, οf one's own ἀρετή.  So I'd translate, "... but to find, together with other young men, the finest remedy — the remedy of one's own valor — even at the risk of death."
