Given that your text talks about elections the reference to chad is a reference to that point in time and hence the comment that the only chad she wants to talk about is the hunky one over there (i.e. not the chads in the card).

So, in conclusion, perhaps by accident you got the reference right by referring to the ballot box but since that would be too obscure for non-American audiences then I would suggest using the second suggestion that makes the direct reference to a vote.
