Woman poet and man poet
Fell in love with each other.
It was unsafe for either
To count on sunny weather,
The body being no poet.
Yet it had been the woman
Who drew herself apart.
Cushioned on her divan.
And lent some bolder man
Her body, not her heart.
When seven long years were over
How would their story end?
No change of heart for either.
Mere changes in the weather,
A lover being no friend.

Ο ένας τον άλλο ερωτεύτηκε.
Καλό δεν ήταν για κανέναν τους
να βασίζονται στον ευήλιο καιρό,
Καθώς το σώμα δεν είναι ποιητής.
Ωστόσο, πρώτη εκείνη αποτραβήχτηκε
Στον αναπαυτικό της καναπέ
προσφέροντας σε άλλον άντρα,
πιο τολμηρό, το σώμα της
όχι όμως και την καρδιά της.
Αφού είχαν περάσει επτά έτη συναπτά
Τι τέλος θα είχε η ιστορία τους;
Τίποτα δεν είχε αλλάξει μεταξύ των δυο
Εκτός αν εξαιρέσουμε βέβαια τον καιρό,
Καθώς ο εραστής δεν είναι φίλος.

Robert Graves biography, works and poetry index
Robert Ranke Graves
(24 July 1895 – 7 December 1985) was an English poet, translator and novelist. During his long life, he produced more than 140 works. He was the son of the Anglo-Irish writer Alfred Perceval Graves and Amalie von Ranke, a niece of historian Leopold von Ranke. He was the brother of the author Charles Patrick Graves and half-brother of Philip Graves.

, επίσης, τυχαίο...; Ακόμη και ο Έκο, γνωστός για την αγάπη του στη σημειολογία, τον προτιμά ουκ ολίγες φορές.
