How to Create an AutoSuggest Dictionary
This topic describes how to create AutoSuggest dictionaries. AutoSuggest dictionaries contain phrases extracted from translation memories (*.sdltm) or *.tmx files that can be used in AutoSuggest.
To create an AutoSuggest dictionary:
Choose where you want to create the AutoSuggest dictionary:

To setup
Select
a default AutoSuggest dictionary for a language pair,
Tools > Options from the menu bar to display the Options dialog box.
NOTE
Default AutoSuggest dictionaries are used when you create a project or start a new translation using the Open Document command.
an AutoSuggest dictionary to use in your active document,
Project > Project Settings from the menu bar in the Editor view to display the Project Settings dialog box.
an AutoSuggest dictionary to use in your active project,
Project > Project Settings from the menu bar to display the Project Settings dialog box.
Select Language Pairs > [Source Language Name - Target Language Name ] > AutoSuggest Dictionaries from the navigation tree. The AutoSuggest Dictionaries are displayed in the right pane.

Click Generate. The Select Translation Memory page of the New AutoSuggest Dictionary wizard is displayed.

Click Browse and select a translation memory (*.sdltm) or *.tmx file from which to extract words or phrases for the AutoSuggest dictionary.

NOTE
The selected translation memory must have at least 25,000 translation units to generate an AutoSuggest dictionary.
Click Next. The AutoSuggest Dictionary Settings page is displayed.

Complete the AutoSuggest Dictionary Settings page:

The languages default to the languages in the translation memory (*.sdltm) or *.tmx file you selected. If you want to switch the source and target language or select a different target language, select the different languages from the drop-down lists.

Click Edit to display the Filter dialog box where you can create a filter to apply against the extracted data. Only the words/phrases that match the criteria of the filter are extracted.

NOTE
You can only create filters to apply against data extracted from a translation memory (*.sdltm file) and not from a *.tmx file.
Click Next. The AutoSuggest Dictionary Memory Usage page is displayed.

On the AutoSuggest Dictionary Creation Memory Usage you specify how many translation units are processed against the filter and language directions specified from the translation memory or TMX file. This defaults to a specified number based on the memory available on the machine on which you are creating the AutoSuggest dictionary. Click Next to accept the recommended number.

NOTE
You may need to reduce this number if you receive an error message indicating that you do not have enough memory to create the dictionary.
Click Next. The AutoSuggest Dictionary Location page is displayed.

If you want to specify a different location to save the new AutoSuggest Dictionary, click Browse and select a new location.

Click Finish to create the AutoSuggest dictionary. The Creating AutoSuggest Dictionary is displayed.

When the dictionary has finished creating, the items on this page are listed as Complete. Click Close.

The dictionary is added to the list of selected AutoSuggest Dictionaries.

NOTE
In order to use the AutoSuggest dictionary as a source for AutoSuggest, you must first select the AutoSuggest dictionary option to enable AutoSuggest.

It is a bit of a bummer really, that SDL forces you to buy the SDL AutoSuggest Creator Add-on if you buy a new version of Studio 2011 FL (which means an extra 200 euro) whereas you will get it for free if you upgrade (http://www.translationzone.com/en/translator-shop/upgrades.asp) from Studio 2009 to Studio 2011 (which will set you back 225 euro). The other option in order to have the AutoSuggest feature is to buy the Pro version, which costs 2.895€.

AutoSuggest creation:
Create revolutionary AutoSuggest dictionaries within the Professional version. The Freelance version enables you to open and use AutoSuggest dictionaries, but you will need to purchase an add-on to create them. AutoSuggest significantly increases translation speed and provides you with sub-segment matches.
SDL Trados Studio 2014 Professional - Translation Software (http://www.translationzone.com/en/translator-products/sdl-trados-studio-professional/)

SDL AutoSuggest™ Creator 2011

SDL AutoSuggest™ Creator Add-on offers you the added benefit of creating your own AutoSuggest dictionaries.
Note: This version is only compatible with Studio 2011. Upgrade and you will receive a free copy of SDL AutoSuggest™ Creator 2011.

SDL AutoSuggest Creator Add-on

With SDL Trados Studio 2009 Freelance and Freelance Plus, it is possible to use AutoSuggest when translating, provided that a dictionary is supplied to you by somebody who can create a dictionary.

To create an AutoSuggest dictionary you either need AutoSuggest Creator Add-on or a SDL Trados Studio 2009 Professional SP3. With either it is possible to create AutoSuggest dictionaries. A minimum of 25,000 translation units is required to create a dictionary.

AutoSuggest Creator allows you to create your own AutoSuggest dictionaries. AutoSuggest dictionaries are used to auto complete a word you have started to type. So there is nothing to download, it's a feature included in Studio 2009 that needs a supplementary license. You enter the activation code in SDL License Manager, just like you will enter the activation code for SDL studio 2009.

* Autosuggest is an automatic process, i.e. it is much easier to use
* Autosuggest can only be used on large TMs (>=20,000 TUs )
* Autosuggest uses an existing TM, not new untranslated documents. If you want to add terms from a new project, and these terms do not exist in the TM, Autosuggest cannot help.
