1984 Dancer, 37 [Harrow, Middx.] On my first theatre job I was told never to whistle in the dressing room and if anyone did they had to go out, turn round three times, knock, and wait to be told to enter- and if they didn't like you you had to wait a long time.
1985 Actor, 28. I've been told several times that it's whistling in the wings that's unlucky- that's because, before there was a Tannoy system, whistling was the signal to change the scenery.
1987 Actress, 58. If you whistle in a dressing room you've got to go out, turn round three times, spit, and come in and swear.
