ἐν Κέῳ τίς ἡμέρα; → what day is it on Keos (modern Kea)?
No one on Keos knew what day it was because the days were not set, but individuals reckoned them as they pleased. The saying was used to deride anyone who took it on himself to proclaim the new month.
Andrew S. Brown, The Common Voice of the People, p.87

The popular saying is first attested among fragments of the comic poet Crates (5th cent. BCE,
Samians
frag. 1, line 5).
