What do the following phrases mean: 'εξ ου και' and 'εν τω πολεμώ'? Could you also, please, write separate (or not if you don't want to) sentences with these phrases in?

I know that 'εκ'/'εξ' is Ancient Greek for 'από' ['from'], so in what circumstances would I use this instead of 'από'? Is it also used informally?

I've also seen 'εν τω Κύπρω'. Does 'εν' have a newer meaning? Will whatever noun after 'εν' end in 'ω' whatever the gender?

As I said many times before, you need a good Greek monolingual dictionary, lke the one by Babiniotis (the complete version not the student one).

εξ ου και=hence the
εν τω πολέμω=in/during the war (this is an old case not used in Modern Greek called dative and it equals στον πόλεμο).

Λίον.

Καταρχήν έχουμε "εν Κύπρω" και εννοούμε in Cyprus. Το "τω" είναι αρσενικό άρθρο ενώ λέμε Η Κύπρος.

Τα "εν/εκ/εξ" είναι προθέσεις των αρχαίων ελληνικών και δεν χρησιμοποιούνται ιδιαίτερα τακτικά στα νέα ελληνικά. Επομένως θα λες "στην Κύπρο, στον πόλεμο ή σε καιρό πολέμου, λόγω του οποίου (εξ ού)." γιατί αλλιώς τα ελληνικά σου θα ακούγονται περίεργα.

Θα μας ακούσεις μερικές φορές να τα χρησιμοποιούμε αλλά ως native speakers των ελληνικών συνήθως ξέρουμε πού μπορούμε να βάλουμε και λίγα αρχαία ελληνικά ή συγκεκριμένες εκφράσεις, συνήθως για έμφαση.
