If you have access to SDL OpenExchange (you are a registered SDL user) you can try the Glossary Converter (http://www.translationzone.com/en/openexchange/AppDetails.aspx?appid=344) application.
MultiTerm convert solution
Trados instructions appear overwhelming to you with the multitude of options? You have tried to import your favourite, two-column dictionary and failed? Read on, it is easier than it seems; although not half as easy as in other CAT tools like DVX, Wordfast or MetaTexis.
Preparing the glossary in Excel
Use headers, i.e. the first cell in the first column could be English and the first cell in the second column Greek:
English Greek

Importing via MultiTerm Convert
Open MultiTerm Convert. You will see the following screens:
1. Welcome.
2. Conversion Session. Select New Conversion session.
3. Conversion Options. Select Microsoft Excel format.
4. Specify excel file. Input file. Select your Excel file. The other file options will be populated automatically. The location of the xml file will be the same as the location of the xls file. Note it as you will need it later.
5. Specify Column Header.
For English select Index field: English (e.g. US)
For Greek select Index field: Greek
6. Create Entry Structure. Leave as is. Next.
7. Conversion Summary. Leave as is. Next.
8. Converting. Wait.
9. Conversion Complete. Finish.
Creating and Importing to MultiTerm termbase for MultiTerm 2007 or earlier versions
Open MultiTerm. Click on Termbase and then Create termbase:
1. Termbase definition. Use Load an existing termbase definition file and select the .xdt file from the location you stored it when you made the conversion.
2. Termbase Name. Enter name.
3. Index fields. Remove German. Add Greek.
4. Descriptive fields. Leave as is. Next.
5. Entry structure. Leave as is. Next.
6. Wizard Complete. Finish.
Importing entries
Termbase/Import entries: Termbase Catalogue. Select default import definition. Press Process.
1. General settings. Import file: the xml file you have created. Select Fast import (skip to screen 7).
7. Import definition summary. Next.
8. Processing the import. Next. Wizard Complete. Finish. Close Termbase Catalogue.

Ι followed your instructions for converting a glossary. They are very useful. Thank you. I have a question however: Once loaded in MultiTerm, I cannot add any descriptive fields to my entries even if I selected them in my Term definition. Is this normal? Can't I add definitions, context to those entires?
What is your MultiTerm version? (It is notoriously buggy).
The easiest way to to that is to amend the import procedure.
1. Create an extra column with descriptive information (you can type Definition on the first cell of the third column).
2. When you follow the procedure, select it as an extra Descriptive field.
When you reach the stage:
1. Termbase definition. Use a predefined termbase template: Bilingual glossary
Instead of that, click Browse, and select the file that was created by the conversion process.
Alternatively, you can try modifying the Termbase Definition of your existing Termbase:
1. Click Termbase
2. Click Modify Termbase Definition
3. Next, Next, Next
4. Create new descriptive entry
5. Click Add
6. Click Next, Next, Finish

Thank you. My version of MultiTerm is 7.5.0.444. The weirdest thing is that when I Edit an entry, the Terms (entries) themselves disappear! I can select my descriptive fields but I have no more entry terms... TRADOS!
Same thing happens here. The safe option though is to create extra descriptive fields from the outset.
If you want a great, free, user-friendly terminology management tool, try ApSIC Xbench (http://www.apsic.com/en/products_xbench.html).
Another possible issue can be using an updated Java version (MultiTerm wants its installation version instead!).
If you have newer Java versions on your machine, uninstall them and try installing again the Java version provided with MultiTerm.

3. Save new Termbase, give a name to your termbase and click Save.
4. Termbase wizard. Click Next.
5. Select xdt file from your original xls file folder.

7. Use Load an existing termbase definition file and select the .xdt file from the location you stored it when you made the conversion.
2. Termbase Name. Enter name.
3. Index fields. Click Next.
4. Descriptive fields. Leave as is. Next.
5. Entry structure. Leave as is. Next.
6. Wizard Complete. Finish.
Importing entries
1. Click on Catalog on the bottom left corner.
2. Right click on Import
3. Click on Process.
4. General settings. Import file: select the xml file you have created. Check the option Fast import (skip to screen 7).
5. Import definition summary. Next.
6. Processing the import. Next. Wizard Complete. Finish.
7. Close Termbase Catalogue.
8. Click on Terms
9. Make sure the language pair selection is correct on the boxes on top (i.e. left box English, right box Greek).

Thanks a lot!
May I ask a question, when I try to import from excel, the convert seems OK, but after I finished all the Termbase setting wizard and click "finish", it appears a window: Multiterm is unable to create the Termbase - that's happened in multiterm 2009.
I also tried multiterm7, finally it says: unknown error.
So can not go to next step, entry, it's grey and not available.
How to solve it? THX!
