Title: How to define translation memory fields (attributes) in SDL Trados Suite 2007 and Studio 2009/2011/2014 (client, project, subject field)
Post by: spiros on 25 Jul, 2008, 20:49:01
If you want to do the same thing in SDL Trados Studio 2009/2011/2014, check this tutorial (http://multifarious.filkin.com/2013/07/12/fields_attributes/).

How to define translation memory fields (attributes) in Trados (client, project, subject field)

The Project Settings tab in the Project and Filter Settings dialog box allows you to activate attribute and text fields for a specific project. The values you set for each field are then added to each new translation unit created during the project (so that you can track which project/client/file/subject field or whatever a translation unit belongs to).

The Filter Settings tab in the Project and Filter Settings dialog box allows you to define attribute and text fields as filters, which are then used by Translator's Workbench when searching the translation memory. The setup of the current translation memory determines which text fields and attributes are available to you.

Translator's Workbench allows you to save project settings for re-use at a later stage. The settings are stored in external files – known as Translator’s Workbench project settings – with the extension .wps.

How do I define translation memory fields (attributes)?
—Select FileSetup… → Fields
If necessary, click Reset to clear previously defined project settings
—Select a field or its value (for example from Attribute fields), click Add and enter new name
—Click on the attribute value
—Click Add again to add an attribute value
—Click Add as many times as necessary to add all the attribute values you need.
—Repeat the same procedure for other fields and attribute values you want included
—When done, click OK

How Do I select translation memory fields for a project
—Click SettingsProject and Filter Settings…
—Select appropriate Attribute/Text fields and their values for Project Settings
For example:
—Click the field on the Attribute fields
—Click its value on the Attribute Picklist (You will notice that the values you entered will appear in the field Current settings, below).
—Repeat the same procedure for other fields you want included
(you can get the Project and Filter Settings dialog box to appear automatically every time you launch Trados or a new memory by selecting Options Translation Memory OptionsGeneral Show project settings)

Do not forget to change your Project and Filter Settings if you start working on another translation project without closing the translation memory or Trados

Saving the settings
—If you wish to save the project settings, click Save. This opens the Save Project Settings File dialog box.
—Specify a location and a name for the project settings file and click Save.
You return to the Project Settings tab.

Loading existing project settings
To load an existing project settings file (.wps):
—From the Project Settings tab, click Load. The Open Project Settings File dialog box is displayed.
—Locate the project settings file on your system and click Open.
Translator's Workbench automatically loads the file and you return to the Project Settings tab, where the relevant settings information is displayed.

Here is what a full translation unit looks like when exported as txt:
