Title: Α holder of a Degree in Translation Studies of the Ionian University, Corfu, needs to have the Proficiency as well, in order to teach English?

To my knowledge, no. A university degree in translation is far superior than Proficiency.

Or are we allowed to teach English in the private sector only with our degree (thus without the Proficiency Certiificate)?

Having recently asked the same question at the Department of Education, people entitled to having a Certificate of Proficiency (επάρκεια) may belong to one of the following categories:

a) graduates of English Literature Departments in Greece or abroad
b) graduates of the Ionian University, Dpt. of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting
c) graduates of any English-speaking University in any country (I have a friend who's a pharmacist [!]' and he's entitled to the certificate because he graduated from such a University abroad)
d) holders of a Certificate of Proficiency issued by Cambridge University, Michigan University, etc.
e) Holders of the State Certificate for Language Knowledge (κρατικό πιστοποιητικό γλωσσομάθειας)

Απ' ότι ξέρω, οι πτυχιούχοι του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου έχουν τη δυνατότητα να διδάξουν αγγλικά μέχρι και στο Δημοτικό. Οπότε, φαντάζομαι και σε φροντιστήρια... Για τα ιδιαίτερα μαθήματα δεν κάνω λόγο, καθότι συνάδελφος... Στην Ελλάδα, εξάλλου, είσαι ό,τι δηλώσεις!!!

Αυτό ομολογουμένως δεν το ήξερα. Πώς γίνεται αυτό αφού όμως δεν έχουμε διδαχτεί παιδαγωγικά μαθήματα; Η επάρκεια στη γλώσσα δεν αμφισβητείται φυσικά.

Μπορούμε δηλαδή να πάρουμε μέρος στις εξετάσεις του ΑΣΕΠ;

Κάπου είχα διαβάσει ότι οι πτυχιούχοι του Ιονίου μπορούν να διδάξουν στο δημόσιο μόνο μέχρι και το δημοτικό. Στα φροντιστήρια και στα ιδιαίτερα εννοείται πως μπορούν, καθώς λαμβάνουν πλήθος γνώσεων. Οι Proficiency holders, άλλωστε, δεν κάνουν ποτέ παιδαγωγικά, εκτός κι αν έχουν λάβει κι άλλη εκπαίδευση...
Μια ερώτηση στο ΥΠΕΠΘ και τον ΑΣΕΠ θα λύσει κάθε απορία..

Αν μάθεις κάτι παραπάνω, ενημέρωσέ μας!!

Όχι. Δεν ισχύει κάτι τέτοιο γιατί στο πρόγραμμα σπουδών του Ιονίου δεν υπάρχει διδακτική. Μπορείς μόνο να πάρεις επάρκεια και μετέπειτα άδεια διδασκαλίας για φροντιστήρια και ιδιαίτερα.

Πάντως εγώ, ως απόφοιτη του τμήματος, όταν πριν από 5 χρόνια πήγα στη γραμματεία για να ζητήσω κάποιο πιστοποιητικό ή (δεν ξέρω και γω τι) για την επάρκεια διδασκαλίας, έλαβα την εξής απάντηση:
"Κοπελιά, έχεις καταλάβει τι σπούδασες; Δεν παρέχεται καμία επάρκεια διδασκαλίας στους αποφοίτους του τμήματος". Και, φυσικά, όταν έκανα αίτηση για επάρκεια, κατέθεσα το Proficiency, όχι το πτυχίο μου!!!
