Γλωσσικός δανεισμός: η περίπτωση του περιθωριακού λεξιλογίου
In this paper I study linguistic borrowing in Modern Greek (MG) slang. Slang vocabulary mainly consists of loan words and expressions and even functions from other languages like: Italian (gómena (girlfriend) > ital. gommeno), French (partúza (group sex) > fren. partouse / partouze > partie (part), Turkish (pústis (fag) > turk. puşt) and English (frikio (freak) > eng. freak, aksiagámitos > fuckable).
In particular, I present the criteria that render a word “slang” (Dumas & Lighter, 1978:14-16), while, after examining linguistic borrowing in slang vocabulary, I determine which languages lend words and expressions to MG (Anastasiadi-Symeonidi, 1994; Papanastasiou, 2001 etc.). Furthermore, I study those elements that are mostly influenced by borrowing (i.e. stems, suffixes or functions) and attempt to understand the causes of increased borrowing in slang and to investigate whether this process is still that active nowadays.
