Error Message: Troubleshooting the error message "The parameter is incorrect."
Applies to: Translator's Workbench 2.x/TagEditor, Translator's Workbench 3/TagEditor, Translator's Workbench 5/5.5
SYMPTOMS
When cleaning up a batch of files, the error message "The parameter is incorrect [file name]. File skipped" is displayed. The file for which the error is returned is not cleaned. The file name that the message points to is typically a temporary file in the temp directory of the hard drive.
Error Number: 87
Error String: The parameter is incorrect [file name]. File skipped
EXPLANATION
This message is generated by the operating system. It can be linked to a variety of factors: A bad file or directory name; an incorrect directory setting for the temp directory; an incorrect setting for the file location of an initialisation file. It can also be linked to the existence of remnant temporary files in the temp directory, or the failure of the operating system to release a temporary file after Translator's Workbench has finished accessing it.
STEPS
When this error occurs, try the following steps to solve the problem:
1. Check that all your settings are correct: path to the files to be cleaned, log file path, path to the INI file if you are cleaning BIF files.
2. Check that the environment variable for the temp directory is set correctly.
3. Check whether there is enough disk space for Translator's Workbench to create temporary files on the hard drive. If in doubt, free some space on the hard drive.
4. Close Translator's Workbench and Word or TagEditor. Check the temp directory for any remnant temporary files, and if there are any, delete them.
5. Re-launch the applications.
6. Re-start the computer.
7. It has been observed that the error occurs more frequently under Windows 9x operating systems. Try using Windows NT, if this is possible, or else try running the process on another computer.
