Και μια άλλη ερμηνεία. Επειδή οι αλληλουχίες των νουκλεοτιδίων (από τα οποία απαρτίζονται το DNA και το RNA) διαβάζονται από αριστερά προς δεξιά, δηλαδή από το άκρο 5’ προς το άκρο 3’ του νουκλεοτιδίου (ή του κλώνου), το upstream (= αντίθετα προς το ρεύμα) δείχνει ότι μια αλληλουχία βρίσκεται πριν από κάποιο γονίδιο ή κωδικεύουσα περιοχή, δηλ. προς το άκρο 5’. Αντίθετα, downstream σημαίνει προς το άκρο 3’.

Ευχαριστώ για τα links! Είναι στριφνή η απόδοσή τους, όντως...Αν και θα μου άρεσαν μονολεκτικές αποδόσεις, δυστυχώς δεν βρήκα πουθενά ανερχόμενη μετανάστευση ωοτοκίας, ενώ το αντιρρευματικός παραπέμπει σε φάρμακα εναντίον των ρευματισμών.

Άρα απέδωσα εδώ ως: αντίθετα/σύμφωνα με τη ροή του ποταμού.

Στο κείμενο μου τώρα έχουμε μια υδροσήραγγα κλειστού κυκλώματος (closed-loop water tunnel) με σκοπό να γίνει οπτικοποίηση ροής. Χοντρικά, μπαίνει το νερό, υπάρχει και μια αντλία, υπάρχουν βαλβίδες που ελέγχουν τη ροή, ένας dye injector, ένα test section (περιοχή πραγματοποίησης του πειράματος) και ένας καθρέπτης.

Όταν εδώ μας λέει upstream, καταλαβαίνω ότι αναφέρεται "προς αντίθετη κατεύθυνση από αυτήν της ροής" άρα κατ'επέκταση "πριν". Μπορώ να το αποδώσω ως "πριν";

The essential geometric parameters are: inlet diameter (undisturbed tube diameter), tube length upstream of the constriction, constriction length, constriction diameter, length of the downstream domain.

This length was chosen in order to minimize the influence of the downstream boundary conditions.
