στου Ψυρρή

My modern Greek grammar is usually fairly reliable, but for the life of me I cannot work out why 'στου' and not 'στο' in a sentence I've just read:

"Πήγα για φαγητό στου Ψυρρή... και μετά σ'ένα μπαρ στο Μετς"

Is there something 'odd' about the place name Ψυρρή? I thought it was a misprint, but στου Ψυρρή occurs later in the page too.  ('..στο Μετς' is as I would have expected of course and adds to my confusion as to στου. 'του' I could understand, but not 'στου'). And then as the place is 'το Ψυρρή', unless I am very much mistaken (can't be feminine with 'στου' in front of it), the ending on Ψυρρή is odd to me as well (maybe it is 'fixed'?). Genetive or accusative??

This is semi-idiomatic usage. Maybe try to imagine it as a male name, "στου", is like the French "chez".

I came back to edit the post and add a similar idea (i.e that there was some kind of 'hidden' meaning behind the usage - yes, like 'chez' in French, as you suggest), but you got in before me. Thanks for the reply (and links).

So, one could just as correctly then say "και μετά σ'ένα μπαρ στοu Μετς", or even "... στης Αθήνας"?

στου Μετς is not used. Μετς is neuter (στο Μετς).
στης Αθήνας is not used. What you could use, is if your friend was called Αθηνά and you paid her a visit, στης Αθηνάς.

You could say however, στης Αθήνας τα στενά...

OK, but I assumed Ψυρρή is also neuter.. and checking with one of the links you gave:

Ψυρρή - ουδέτερο άκλιτο

So not sure why στου Μετς isn't right whilst στου Ψυρρή is. No matter - just what's idiomatic I guess. Perhaps I'd have to live in Athens to 'feel' this. (Yes, I do see though the 'nuance' if Athina is a person, like 'chez', as you say).

As it is, I would almost have expected something like στου Ψυρριού, though it's starting to look a bit odd even to me. I would automatically just say 'στο Ψυρρή'

It was quoted already, it is presumed as a male name.

Well, everything I have read shows the place as neuter. For instance, here:

Ψυρρή - Βικιπαίδεια

Απο το 1870 το Ψυρρή είχε μετατραπεί σε μια από τις πιο επικίνδυνες περιοχές της Αθήνας.

Tο Ψυρρή as a subject, but no matter. I don't need to know the minute details - I'll just take στου Ψυρρή as idiomatic usage, as you first said.
