Can anyone tell me what this abbreviation might mean? It's in the context of country names and, I think, relates to Abkhazia. The Δ may be Δημοκρατια but I can't think what the rest could be....
Thanks for any help.

Not only to Abkhazia, but to all the (ex) Soviet Socialist Republics. It means Σοβιετική Σοσιαλιστική Δημοκρατία.

Many thanks to both of you. I was trying to think of the name of a specific present-day republic that would fit! In fact, the context means they may well be referring to the days of the former Soviet Union.
