παράπονο is complaint. This is the diminutive form and it means something like "sweet little torment".

I know. It is because "παραπονάκι μου" appears next to "βασανάκι μου" that I decided to give that translation. "My sweet little complaint" sounds like an ailment, and I wouldn't use it to address a lover.

Οk, ok. I would never use either to address a lover, anyway. But, then again, this is a song so...

The one in the Exorcist was Paramythaki mou (Σου 'παν πως είμαι μπελαλής... Παραμυθάκι μου, μη με μαλώνεις). See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070047/trivia

"Paraponaki mou" goes: Αχ βασανάκι μου παραπονάκι μου, παρ' την καρδούλα μου να μην πονα.

The whole thing goes:

Wouldn't that be a great idea? A book with the lyrics of those Greek songs that are most popular abroad, together with an English translation?

Αnd how would you translate "βασανάκι" & "παραπονάκι" using two different words?

You're right.. too much exposure to foreign sounds (see virgin quiz post) At least, I hope I remember right Istoria mou, amartia mou by Rita Sakelariou from the same movie..

I hope he doesn't mean she's a nag...

But if they're synonyms, how about "sweet little pain in the ass"??? :-}}}

"re I think this song appeared in The Exorcist O.S.T, right?"

It is from the nice Greek singer Tina Trakou.
Check her out if you want, very nice melodies :)
Please don't associate her with The Exorcist por favor ihihiih:snifff

Bottomline: I thank you all very mucho for helping me to translate it.
