Irish bestseller goes into Japanese
A best-selling guide to The Book of Kells
has been translated into Japanese script for the first time, to cater for the thousands of tourists who visit the ancient manuscript each year.Exploring the Book of Kells
, by George Otto Simms, was first published 20 years ago and until now has been available only in English, French and German.
Michael O’Brien, of the book’s publishers, O’Brien Press, said: “The Japanese have a huge respect and fascination for Irish cultural heritage.”
The illustrated manuscript, dating from AD800, is on permanent display in the Old Library at Trinity College and attracts about 500,000 tourists each year.
