"Life is but what you deem it"

"there is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so"

"the mind is it own place
and in it's self
can make a hell out of heaven
and a heaven of hell"

these are different ways of saying the same thing, for me it expresses the minds ability to master ourselves, in short "Life is opinion" which is the words used by Marcus Aurelius in Meditations, the translator points out in the foot notes that Marcus wrote this maxim in Ancient Greek yet does not print it, so if someone on this forum could translate i would be very grateful.

The full quotation is ὁ κόσμος ἀλλοίωσις, ὁ βίος ὑπόληψις, literally "The universe is change, life is a fleeting impression."  The context, in Long's translation:  "... all these things, which thou seest, change immediately and will no longer be; and constantly bear in mind how many of these changes thou hast already witnessed. The universe is transformation: life is opinion."  For a much earlier, but similar view from Xenophanes, see https://www.translatum.gr/forum/index.php?topic=259062.msg462599#msg462599.
Your quotation from Milton ("The mind is its own place, etc.") is one of my favorites — even if it's not entirely relevant to Marcus Aurelius' observation.
