"Homer told how the Greeks put a stop to the plague by using the power and charm of some special songs called epimoimia".
The word does not exist in Greek. Odent must mean ἐπιλοίμια, "incantations against plague," which however are only mentioned by Pollux (2nd cent. CE), not by Homer. Anyone who has read the
Iliad knows that the Greeks put a stop to the plague not through incantations (which in Homer would be ἐπαοιδαί / ἐπῳδαί), but through sacrifice to Apollo and propitiation of his priest Chryses, whose captured daughter they returned.
