The new version of IATE, The European Terminology Database, is coming. Read the presentation made at the European Terminology Summit in Luxembourg in November 2016

New IATE is online https://iate.europa.eu/home

Some comments

1.
The Last queries are saved automatically, but one has to click twice to rerun a saved query: once on the query itself and then on the button Run this query again on the right pane. This is an unnecessary extra step: the query could simply be run with clicking on it.

2. Although IATE 2 exposes an API, and provides a link to a specific search result, i.e. compact, no syntax is readily available that would enable one to compose links to queries. For example something like:

iate.europa.eu//search?source_lan=en&target_lan=el&query=mysearchword

Hi Spiros,

Thanks for this!
Especially for the: "Although IATE 2 exposes an API, and provides a link to a specific search result, i.e. compact, no syntax is readily available that would enable one to compose links to queries".
I like to have, in fact, both MagicSearch and individual links on Web Lookup on Trados, but since the new IATE release, I was not able to set it.
Do you think is there a way to do it?

Thanks,
Gidan

Well, this is exactly what I said, there does not appear any obvious way of doing it, unless one uses the API programmatically. Maybe contact the e-mail at the bottom of this page https://iate.europa.eu/about or talk to https://twitter.com/rodolfomaslias

Unless they provide a way as described above, it will not be possible to integrate in magicsearch.

You'd have to have been on NASA's InSight on its long and finally completed journey to Mars to not have heard that IATE, the massive European Union terminology database, has been completely overhauled -- at least as far as the user interface is concerned, including the possibility of connecting to it via application programming interface and an overall greater usability. Kudos to the team that worked on it: I think the result looks beautiful. Over the years I've had the opportunity to meet some of the people who are responsible for developing and maintaining IATE, and I have rarely encountered such passionate linguists.

Some of you who don't use IATE directly via its interface but through tools like IntelliWebSearch might have been a little frustrated when you realized that the old links don't work anymore. Both the folks at IATE and IntelliWebSearch (and I assume any of the comparable products) are working on a fix for that which should be available in no time.

Looks like some issues remain with the URL structure as one gets the error Invalid target language when the all (target languages parameter) is used, I.e.

Code: [Select]
https://iate.europa.eu/search/byUrl?term=credit&sl=en&tl=all
The only way to have all target languages displayed in search results is to omit the tl parameter altogether:

Code: [Select]
https://iate.europa.eu/search/byUrl?term=credit&sl=en
Version 1.15.0
New features implemented:

Linguistic changes in existing labels/strings/tooltips.
Friendly URL displaying the entry ID and directing the user to the Full Entry View of the entry.
Entry-to-entry links: it is now possible to click on any IATE ID entry quoted in any reference field. By clicking on e.g IATE:12345, the user is redirected to the relevant Full Entry View of the entry 12345.
URL for searching: the new IATE offers the possibility to launch queries via the URL, follow this link and build your URL by applying the required parameters.
Shortcut to move to search field: no need to scroll up anymore from the bottom of a very long search results. Just use the “alt+I” shortcut to be redirected to the search box and start another search.
Feedback by the users: the limit when filtering by domain and subdomains included by default has now been increased.
Fresh copy of data and updated figures for global number of entries and number of terms.
Bug fixes:

Logo and other images issues in Edge.
Issues with rollover texts in some languages.
Error message when filtering by too many domains including subdomains.
Support for old Safari versions.

Search by URL
The new IATE continues offering the possibility to launch queries via the URL.

Please see an example of query with the available parameters explained:

Code: [Select]
http://iate.europa.eu/search/byUrl?
term=credit
&sl=en
&tl=all
&fields=0,2
&matching=5
&domains=E60E2A656AFE4A42AF39186973A7C147

Parameters:
term* = (any string)
sl* = language code
tl = comma separated list of language codes or 'all' (default).
fields = comma separated list of field codes.
Accepted values are
0: term (default)
2: term note
3: context
7: language level note
matching = single value.
3: exact match
2: exact string
1: all words (default)
0: any word
5: partial string
type = comma separated list of term types.
Accepted values are
0: abbrev
1: formula
2: phrase
3: short form
4: term
4: lookup
Default: all
domains = comma-separated domain codes, as indicated in the page https://iate.europa.eu/em-api/domains/_tree.
By selecting a domain, all its subdomains are included by default (this option can not be disabled).
Remarks:
Only the fields marked with * are mandatory. Other fields will take the default value if not specified.
When searching in a field different than term, the only accepted matching type is 5 (partial string), and the term type is not accepted at all.
In the case above, the matching type - if not specified - will default to 5 (partial string) instead than to 1 (all words).
Only the parameters available for external users are available through the search by URL.
