About the same Rebetik song και θα κάτσω στη γωνία that featured in my last topic:-

Οι ναύτες που μπαρκάρανε κι οι ναύτες που φουμάρανε
απ' το φιλί μια τζούρα
τον πόνο το μαρκάρανε, ταξίδια σιγοντάρανε
και πνίξαν τη χασούρα.

I'm reasonably happy about my translation of this verse but the phrase in the topic was mistranslated by me, since I had omitted to translate the word το. Can any of your specialist
give a better translation? Is it a technical term in gaming?

Now that this verse is in its proper context of flirtation by sailors in a stand-up bar, could I be so bold as to ask you what τον πόνον το μαρκάρανε means in this particular context. At your suggestion, I've looked up the many meanings but none seem to fit this context. What is your educated opinion? I know it's a Rebetik song & sometimes it is hard to gauge the exact meaning in such songs because of words chosen for their easy rhyming but what would be your best shot its meaning here? Thanks, as ever.
