Λύπης ἰατρός ἐστιν ὁ χρηστὸς φίλος (Menander) -> A true friend is grief's physician

I am struggling with the genative "λύπης".  Is this genative of cause?

Because of the sadness a doctor is a useful friend.

Or is it genative of time within which

During sadness, a doctor is a useful friend.

Neither of these seem correct to me.

When I get stuck I go back to a literal view of the grammar.

λύπης is simply genitive...."of grief" or "grief's"

I'd suggest something like

A true friend is grief's physician.
