Another beautiful passage from The Republic:

"Thus much of music, which makes a fair ending; for what should be the end of
music if not the love of beauty?"

Particularly interested in that question "What should be the end of music if not the love of beauty"

Thanks in advance!

In the original Greek (Plato, Republic 403c6), it's not a question, but a declaration: δεῖ δέ που τελευτᾶν τὰ μουσικὰ εἰς τὰ τοῦ καλοῦ ἐρωτικά — "I'd say that music must have as its end the love of the beautiful."
