Thucydides 1.118, on Apollo's oracle to the Spartans: ὁ δὲ ἀνεῖλεν αὐτοῖς, ὡς λέγεται, κατὰ κράτος πολεμοῦσι νίκην ἔσεσθαι, καὶ αὐτὸς ἔφη ξυλλήψεσθαι καὶ παρακαλούμενος καὶ ἄκλητος ("The god is said to have answered them that victory would be theirs if they fought to the utmost, and that he himself would take part, both bidden and unbidden").
Τί δέ τις; Τί δ' οὔ τις; Σκιᾶς ὄναρ ἄνθρωπος.
