Hello all, I'm new here and was looking to translate some text that is on a dagger I just received as a present. I did my best to translate using babelfish through copying and pasting letter by letter but I didn't seem to translate it quite right. Below is the text on the dagger imported to the best of my ability:

Εθιμο το χω από παλιά μαχαιρι να χαρβω μόνο ο αθρώπονς ή αγαπώ και πον τοι ξεχωρβω

and the translation that babelfish gave me:

"Custom hw from old knife harvw only acrw'pons or I love also pon toj xehwrvw"

To help along with the translation, below are two different pictures of the same text. Any help in translating it correctly would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks guys :)

What you have there is a ‘mantinada’. A knife with a mantinada curved on the handle is a ‘must’ souvenir from Crete. More about ‘mantinadas’ can be found here.
This would normally be written in four lines:
Έθιμο το χω από παλιά
μαχαίρι να χαρίζω
μόνο σ’ αθρώπους π’ αγαπώ
και που τσι ξεχωρίζω.

Translation:
It’s been my custom of old
to make a gift of a knife
only to people that I love,
to those I single out.
