φιλόξενος -> hospitable
« on: 20 Jul, 2019, 03:19:46 »
φιλόξενος -> hospitable (from φιλῶ "love" and ξένος "stranger")
Male children were sometimes named "Philoxenus," and female children "Philoxena," from this adjective.  The children were thus named after a proud attribute of the household — hospitality.
