τοῦ εἰδέναι χάριν ἡ πραγματεία -> knowledge is the object of our inquiry, the aim of our investigation is knowledge — Aristotle, Physics 194b16-20:

Now that we have established these distinctions, we must proceed to consider causes, their character and number. Knowledge is the object of our inquiry, and men do not think they know a thing till they have grasped the ‘why’ of it (which is to grasp its primary cause)

These distinctions having been drawn, we must see if we can characterize and enumerate the various sorts of cause. For since the aim of our investigation is knowledge, and we think we have knowledge of a thing only when we can answer the question about it ‘On account of what?’ and that is to grasp the primary cause
