ἀκάνθιος τέττιξ -> silent person, as good as voiceless, untalented singer, spiny cicada
ἀκάνθειος τέττιξ
ἀκάνθινος τέττιξ

τὸ ἐθνικὸν τῆς Ἀκάνθου Ἀκάνθιος, ἐξ οὗ καὶ παροιμία Ἀκάνθιος τέττιξ ἐπὶ τῶν ἀφώνων· τοιοῦτοι γὰρ οἱ τῆς χώρας τέττιγες, ὡς Σιμωνίδης -> "Acanthian" is the word for an inhabitant of Akanthos [city on the Athos peninsula in Chalkidiki]; derived from that is the proverb "Acanthian cicada", said of those who have no [singing] voice, since, as Simonides says, the cicadas of that region are voiceless.
