Benjamin Franklin?

Der bittere Nachgeschmack schlechter Qualität verbleibt noch lange nachdem die Süße des niedrigen Preises bereits vergessen ist.

Somehow it has an aroma much more modern than Franklin, and ripe to be put to use for modern corporate PR.  And despite its almost universal attribution to Franklin, like so many "quotes" attributed to "Socrates," "Aristotle," etc., a written source is never named.
The alternative source (more likely IMHO) is John David Stanhope: The bitter taste of poor Quote | Wise Quotes.  No idea who he was or is — possibly an inventor working for a contemporary corporation: Patents by Inventor John David Stanhope - Justia Patents Database.  Perhaps it was Stanhope himself who decided to attribute his own quotation to Benjamin Franklin!  (-:
