Somehow it has an aroma much more modern than Franklin, and ripe to be put to use for modern corporate PR. And despite its almost universal attribution to Franklin, like so many "quotes" attributed to "Socrates," "Aristotle," etc., a written source is never named.
The alternative source (more likely IMHO) is John David Stanhope:
The bitter taste of poor Quote | Wise Quotes
. No idea who he was or is — possibly an inventor working for a contemporary corporation:

. Perhaps it was Stanhope himself who decided to attribute his own quotation to Benjamin Franklin! (-:
